Interlude: When Hope is briefly lost

Dearest fans,

In the light of recent incidents Gypsy Rose is unable to continue. As a parting token I offer this brief interlude based on words more eloquent than any I could have come up with, from my favourite show Babylon 5.

OB1 is meditating before a candle. He is obviously sad, distressed and disillusioned. Young Luke approaches him...

LUKE: Dearest master, what saddens you?

OB1: I fear that in your quest to defeat the evil empire, you yourself will be seduced by the dark side.

LUKE: Never!

OB1: It happened before, it might happen again.

Luke comforts his beloved master.

OB1: What will you sacrifice for victory? Are you prepared to stand by your beliefs and ideals, even though they may cost you victory?

LUKE: But aren't we trying to win?

OB1: We are fighting because of the ideals the Empire have betrayed, what value is it to win if we must also betray those ideals to do so!

OB1 becomes silent again, meditating on his candle...

LUKE: What does the candle represent?

OB1: Life

LUKE: Whose life?

OB1: All Life. Every Life

We are all born as molecules in the hearts of a billion stars; molecules that do not understand politics or policies or differences. Over a billion years we foolish molecules forget who we are and where we came from. In desperate acts of ego we give ourselves names and fight over lines and maps, and pretend that our light is better than everyone else's. The flame reminds us of the piece of those stars that lives on inside us, the spark that tells us you should know better! The flame also reminds us that life is precious, that each flame is unique and if it goes out it is gone forever; there will never be another quite like it...

So many candles will go out tonight...

I wonder some days if we can see anything at all...

and yet the saga did eventually get continued...
